Linux Cpanel shared hosting: 600 GB disk space, 6 TB bandwidth, free domain, unlimited databases and ftp accounts, web hosting cheap and pro at Hostony

Greetings!

We hope everyone is staying warm! If you are lucky enough to live in a region where the temperatures stay relatively warm, we certainly envy you! February, although cold, has been nice and warm here at Site5. This has been one of the busiest months for our company, and we love it! So, here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • Management of Resources:  Site5 has been focusing on using what resources we have more efficiently. By taking a closer look into how efficient each one of our servers are, we have made improvements to our server fleet by: expanding into globally managed datacenters, altering server settings such as memory limit, and adding more detection tools to prevent attacks (WordPress websites in particular). These adjustments to our fleet will make each server run more efficiently, and should reduce the strain each server experiences, thus making your websites run more efficiently!
  • Updates, Updates, Updates: Updates are a critical aspect of keeping our servers happy and healthy. These updates mean better server quality for all customers across all hosting plans. Upgrades for this month include:
    • cPanel: 11.44 is running and we are currently testing 11.48 on certain servers
    • mySQL has been upgraded from 5.1 to 5.5
    • 3.14 Linux kernal is now running on all servers and virtual machines to improve performance and stability.

Spring is right around the corner and Site5 is keeping up the momentum! What can you expect from Site5 in the upcoming months? Check it out:

Linux Cpanel shared hosting: 600 GB disk space, 6 TB bandwidth, free domain, unlimited databases and ftp accounts, web hosting cheap and pro at Hostony

  • WordPress themes: Our team of web designers have been tirelessly working on new WordPress themes to feature on our WordPress theme website, S5Themes. Our next theme will launch in April and will continue to reflect current WordPress trends. Any ideas on a WordPress theme? Feel free to let us know on social media: @Site5.
  • Customer Service: Site5 plans to continue our work in our customer service department to improve ticket/chat response times and quality. Gathering feedback from our customers is so important to us. We are constantly looking to improve every area of our customer service team so that our customers get the best experience available.
  • Backend/Billing System: With the launch of our new backend/billing system, our engineers have tirelessly been working on upgrading and improving the system to create an effortless and smooth running dashboard for our customers.
  • Expansion: We really just want to take over the world. Anyone interested in a space station server location? Sounds amazing. Site5 continues to research and investigate new places for server locations and datacenters. We are also looking to continue expanding our workforce. If you are interested in working with a modern and globally present company, consider joining our team. If you are interested in learning more about our software development team check this site out, and for our tech team go here.

Overall, I think we are all looking forward to Spring! Of course a huge shout out to all of our existing customers for being awesome, and a big welcome to all of our new customers! We are so happy to have you aboard our team. Enjoy the rest of winter friends! We will talk soon.

Last year brought a lot of changes and additions. Thank you for sticking with us and allowing us to help you reach your goals. Here are a few things we have planned in the year ahead:

  • Our Software Development team has been working on Version 2.0 of Backstage that will be coming out this year :). This will bring a lot of improvements to that platform and we can’t wait to show you!
  • For all of you WordPress users, keep your eye out for more custom made, WordPress themes. We will launch a new theme every other month. Join S5Themes today, and join our WordPress mailing list so new themes are automatically delivered to your inbox!

2014 was a great year for Site5. What did we accomplish this year?

Paris, France is our third European hosting location currently available to our customers. And, we now offer a total of 23 hosting locations across the world!
  • We launched our new billing and backend system! This has been a monumental two year project and we can’t wait to show our customers the improvements. We will soon switch all of our clients to this new system, and we will post details on specific dates in early 2015. This new version of Backstage is a giant leap forward and it will allow us to add more features to Backstage, totally redo the domain registration section, and a whole lot of streamlining for a better customer experience.
  • Internally our technology team has been streamlining the software we use to manage all the software that powers your website. This is resulting in improved uptime, faster pagespeed, and a lot of improvements across the board!

State of Site5: December 2014

December 12, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

Hello there!

Winter is right around the corner, the weather is getting colder and we only have a few more weeks until Christmas!  No matter if the weather outside is frightful or not, we are still working hard on a lot of various things.  Here are a few of the things that have been keeping us busy over the past month.

  • Want to work with us? There are several positions open at Site5! We are a team that is just over 100 team members strong and allow you to work from the comfort of your own home no matter where that might be.
  • Our technology team is working on getting upgrades done from MySQL 5.1 to MySQL 5.5 and everything has been smooth sailing thus far.
  • On the security front, we are working on ways to enforce stronger passwords for cPanel and SiteAdmin. Remember, your best passwords are those that contain numbers, punctuation and a mixture of capitalized and lowercase letters.
  • Have you visited the Site5 Knowledge Base lately? There are currently 1,336 articles on there covering such topics as: Getting Started, WordPress Optimization Tips and How To: Generate & Restore Backups.  Have any suggestions for articles you’d like to see?
  • There is word in the pipeline that we will soon have a new hosting location to provide to you.  Where will it be?

This has been a great year for Site5. Over the past year we have seen:

  • Our new billing/CRM system (that will power Backstage soon) continues to be tested, tweaked and perfected. We’re currently discussing customer Beta plans & possibilities as well as the different paths to getting everyone into the new system!
  • Transition of our DNS system to make it geographically redundant
  • Tons of server updates and improvements
  • Boosting the visibility we have into server performance and uptime with a new server monitoring system
  • Check out the other updates and news we’ve had over the past year

That is it for the December update. From everybody at Site5, we hope you all have a happy holiday season.  Have questions? Make sure you leave them in the comments!

State of Site5: 2013

June 30, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

Happy Holidays! I don’t know about you, but 2013 seemed to fly by. It’s time to review the last twelve months!

Recapping some 2013 advancements:

  • European cloud hosting was launched in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  • Unmanaged VPS was launched in six locations: Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington DC, Amsterdam, and Singapore
  • We started offering the goMobi mobile website builder and .mobi domain registrations
  • We started offering SSL certificates
  • Our Malware scanning/protection service was launched
  • PHP received a facelift on our servers 🙂  PHP 5.4 was added, PHP 5.3 replaced 5.2 as the default handler, and PHP is now served via FastCGI

We added shared, reseller, and VPS hosting in three locations:

  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Bucharest, Romania
  • Sao Paulo, Brazil

We also made some pretty significant changes to customer service:

  • We began routing tickets automatically to staff
  • We added real-time “happy” or “sad” instant feedback to tickets
  • We introduced the ability to submit feature ideas via this blog

Our design team released four free premium WordPress themes:

  • Sunrise
  • Time
  • Fizz
  • Clippy

Lastly, we’re proud to have grown our staff 25% from last year. We’re up to 114 team members!

While certainly not everything we’ve worked on this year, it’s definitely a nice overview.

We hope everyone has a great and safe holiday season! Here’s to an even better 2014. 🙂

Hello Everyone!

It is a brand new year full of possibilities and we’re excited about all the amazing things we’re planning to do this year. Much of our focus over the past year was on organizational improvements and we will continue doing that this year as well, all with the larger goal of providing you best in class web hosting services!

Here are the key updates from the past month:

  • We’re still in hiring more! As announced earlier, we’re in the process of expanding our phone support to 24×7 coverage so there are several jobs still open for phone support and other positions too. Head over to our careers page if you’re interested in applying!
  • The CloudFlare plugin has been deployed to all servers on our platform. A SiteAdmin interface for CloudFlare has been added as well, which now makes it super easy for you to enable CloudFlare on your website!
  • Our Technology department has been working hard on refining our anti-spam systems. Without going into a lot of technical details, let me just say that we’re going to get super adept at fighting off spam on our platforms.
  • We’re in the process of testing cPanel 11.40 thoroughly internally so that we can start upgrading cPanel soon across our fleet.
  • We are finalizing our plan to get Phusion Passenger upgraded and Ruby 1.9 and 2.0 installed. We will post up more information as soon as plans are crystallized. There is no ETA at this point.
  • Our new billing/CRM system that will power Backstage is almost ready and we have started testing it internally!

As you can see, there is plenty of work going on behind the scenes to help improve our services. You can do your bit too by suggesting your ideas to us to help us improve – we’re all ears!

See you in the comments. Thanks!
