(The Hosting News) – Google’s high speed internet offering is really taking off. On Thursday, the tech giant announced that Google Fiber would become available in Shawnee, Kansas.
It’s a natural step. Shawnee isn’t far from Kansas City, a location in which the service was initially launched back in July of 2012.
In recent months, the company has moved to expand Fiber to other U.S. locations including Provo, Utah and Austin, Texas.
“Shawnee, which is right outside of Kansas City, is known as a tight-knit community and a great place to do business. We’ve also been impressed by Shawnee’s vision to keep their citizens informed and involved using the Internet. Recently, the City modernized their website, so that locals can easily access city info—from crime maps to fiscal reports to streamed audio of city council meetings,” stated Google via its blog.
Meanwhile, the tech giant emphasized that it didn’t have a set schedule as to exactly when Fiber would become available for the market, citing planning and engineering that still needed to occur.
Google maintains that Fiber is “100 times faster than today’s broadband.”
