(The Hosting News) – After facing a week-long shutdown of the Internet, the Egyptian government has restored service to the country. The loss of internet access for the week seems to have done little to discourage communication and did not make it harder for protesters of the government to organize.Just on Tuesday there was a gathering of protesters in central Cairo that was estimated to be 250,000 people strong.
Also announced late Tuesday, President Hosni Mubarak made it known that he will not be seeking re-election this fall.
The social networks and messaging tools like Twitter and Facebook were effective tools for the Egyptian protesters. During the Internet blackout – companies that provide Internet access had no choice but to comply.
While there are dozens of Internet providers in the country of Egypt – they still all rely on a handful of primary carriers.
Both Twitter and Facebook have been important factors and helpful tools for the Egyptian protesters. The Egyptian government and army are now urging protesters to go home.
