(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Technology giant Sony released an update on the status of its PlaySation network, the online network accessed by users of the company’s PlayStation 3 video game console, offline since April 21, confirming that some user data was compromised in the breach that led to the outage.
In an update posted Tuesday to Sony’s PlayStation blog, Patrick Seybold, the company’s senior director of corporate communications and social media, said that between April 17 and April 19, “certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network.”
According to the post, the information compromised may include name, address, country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network and Qriocity password and login and online ID. It is also possible that profile data, including purchase history and billing address, as well as PlayStation Network and Qriocity security answers were compromised.
