Visit www.myownhomeserver.info for more information. This tutorial shows you how to istall XAMPP 1.7.2 for Windows XP, Vista 32 & 64-bit. XAMPP is the easiest way to quickly install and setup your own self-hosted Apache 2.2.12 HTTP server with PHP 5.3.0, MySQL 5.1.37, and phpMyAdmin 3.2.0.1. I’ve created a new version for XAMPP 1.7.7 at http so check it out!

I have a question for everyone. what if after you installed the XAMPP and start the apache it will automatically stop. what’s the problem with that? I always encounter the same problem every computer.

Whats XAMPP
networknerd007 says
If I hadn’t used XP many times before with XAMPP, then wouldn’t have included it in the title. However, you’ve failed to mention what the “other reasons” are and the installation procedure is the same for the different versions of Windows. The only issues usually pertain to conflicts with other software, such as Skype using port 80, and that’s regardless of which version of Windows is being used.
I am interested to know what these “other reasons” are though…..
semikruller says
then the title is misleading. Fact is, i was looking for an xp tutorial for virtual xp mode, and its not that it doesnt work because of UAC but because of other reasons that you would find if your tutorial didnt make the assumption that vista is just like xp except with UAC
networknerd007 says
Well that’s part of making a tutorial that covers different versions of Windows. Since Vista/Windows 7 are newer than the now over 10 years old XP, it’s far more likely that those users will make up a larger percentage of viewers than XP.
If I left the UAC part off, they’d all gripe about how the UAC is messing everything up and asking why I didn’t include it….
semikruller says
Non windows XP specific information within the first minute of the video (No UAC in XP) – fail.

Also good to know: 1.7.3 does work on 64 bit Vista as-is, and 1.7.4 would run but it needs some changes in the config files (I think; still not sure what to change; if anyone does, please send tell ^.^)
Truthiness231 says
Just an FYI to anyone looking to upgrade: v1.7.4 installer is quite a bit different, and it doesn’t appear to work on 64 bit…

@jeffz2010
Make sure you turn off Internet Telephone Services(eg., Skype)
Before you do the setup….
I knew about this when I opened:
:ExamppREADME
networknerd007 says
Or just start Skype AFTER starting Apache, but I was unaware there was a setting for this. Thanks!
jeffz2010 says
anyone having problem starting Apache – try changing Skype config in:
Options/Advanced/Connection ->
unselect: ‘Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections’
