Global Switch Sees Outage at Sydney Data Center After Fire Trip Activation

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Australian data center operator Global Switch (www.globalswitch.com) experienced an outage at its flagship Sydney data center, Thursday morning, causing downtime for some customers.

The outage occurred when an unnamed contractor accidentally set off the fire trip system shutdown on one of its UPS systems, according to a report by ComputerWorld.

At about 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, one of the data center’s two power distribution feeds stopped operating, resulting in a “very small” number of customers experiencing an outage, Global Switch managing director, Damon Reid said.
