A Wildcard SSL basically allows you to use unlimited sub-domains on a given domain name with one SSL certificate. The purpose of the Wildcard SSL certificate is to secure your main domain and sub domain over a single FQDN. Installing a wildcard SSL Certificate onto cPanel is not much different than installing a standard SSL.
